Facts Students Should Know


  1. South Africa is not the only county with an oversupply of degrees
  2. Not all degrees are in demand by industry
  3. A qualification endorsed by a professional body could more in demand by industry than a qualification not recognised by a professional body
  4. The biggest skills demand is for candidates with diplomas
  5. International accreditation of any qualification depends on whether another country thinks that your qualification is on the same standard as theirs
  6.  There is always a risk that another country recognises your qualification at a lower level than the level stated on your certificate, diploma or degree
  7. Programs that offer a mix of theoretical and practical components could be more valuable than a purely theoretical program
  8. The quality and content of our programs are overseen by professional bodies
  9. All exams are assessed and moderated by External Quality Assurance Partners
  10. The required pass mark and the confirmation that you meet all requirements remains the prerogative of the Quality Assurances Partners.  The Growth Group and its subsidiaries cannot influence the Quality Assurance Partners in the way they assess exams and award final marks

  1. The National Skills Development Act puts an obligation on employers to provide all employees with an opportunity to obtain a first qualification
  2. In the interest of fair labour practices, employers should not deny anyone an opportunity to obtain a first qualification
  3. Every person from whom an employer pays Skills Development Levies is entitled to receive training a prescribed by the Skills Development Act
  4. Employers can make use of programs from other SETA’s because inter-SETA memoranda of agreements should recognise programs across SETA’s
  5. Technical apprenticeships still require practical components that must be completed before a qualification can be awarded
  6. Training endorsed by professional bodies form an important part of the Skills Development Mix
